The electronics are explained on the Carvin website. The black knobs are active treble boost and cut and bass boost and cut. The silver knobs are passive controls. The push pull silver knob when down activates the preamp and when pulled up is in passive mode. The top two toggle switches are humbucker/single coil switches and the lower toggle switch is a phase switch. The battery is located inside the control cavity in the back. There is also some info on the inside of the control cavity cover. From my experience the battery will last a long time if you keep the guitar unplugged when not in use.
